Tankless Water Heater Installation in Vancouver: Compare the Full Cost
The water heater’s sticker price is only part of the job. A useful installation quote explains how the equipment will meet your household’s demand and what must change in your home.

What determines the installed cost?
Two Vancouver homes can need different work even when the quoted water heater is the same model. Existing piping, the proposed location and the route to an acceptable vent termination all affect the installation. This is a guide to comparing quotes, rather than a fixed-price offer. The useful number is the complete price for a defined scope at your address. Ask for taxes, exclusions and optional work to be shown separately so you can compare like for like.
Size for simultaneous demand, not just family size
Tell the installer which fixtures may run together: two showers, a bath filling, or hot water in a suite and the main home. Navien’s sizing guidance uses the required flow rate and temperature rise, including colder incoming water conditions. A model’s highest advertised flow is not its output at every temperature rise. Ask the quote to name the proposed model and explain the hot-water demand it is designed to meet. “Suitable for a family” is less informative than an agreed combination of fixtures operating at the same time.
Seven items to compare in every quote

Venting is model-specific. Rinnai lists different approved venting options across its product lines; one heater’s arrangement should not be assumed suitable for another. Ask the contractor to identify the proposed route and matching manufacturer requirements. See Rinnai’s venting information.
Clarify what “instant” and “endless” mean for your home
If your main frustration is waiting for a distant shower to get hot, state that before choosing equipment. Ask the installer to explain the expected wait at that fixture and whether a recirculation option is suitable. Having hot water available from a heater and delivering it quickly through the home are separate design questions.
Similarly, ask what happens when demand exceeds the proposed system’s capacity. Agree on the performance you need during the busiest part of the day. Do not pay for a feature simply because its name sounds like it solves a different problem.
Compare Rinnai and Navien by the proposed installation
Compare the actual models, controls, maintenance access and local support arrangements. Ask who will diagnose a future fault and which costs are covered during the warranty period. A longer equipment warranty and a longer labour warranty are different benefits.

Can I get an accurate quote from a photo?
Photos can help start the conversation. A final scope may require a site visit to assess the existing services, vent route, access and household demand. Ask whether a preliminary price is subject to those checks.
Is the cheapest quote the best value?
Compare inclusions first. A lower price may reflect a different model or scope. Request the missing details before deciding whether there is a real saving.
What should I send with my estimate request?
Include your city, existing heater type, approximate household demand and the problem you want to solve. Mention a suite, multiple simultaneous showers or limited equipment space.
